Choose the Google Slides method
Google documents its built-in background removal for eligible Google Workspace or Google One AI Premium subscriptions. Availability can differ by account, organization, and rollout. Select the image first and check whether Edit image is present.

Method 1: Use Google Slides background removal

Select the image on the slide
Open the presentation on a computer and click the image whose background you want to remove. Confirm that the correct object is selected before applying the edit.

Choose Edit image and Remove background
Use the Edit image > Remove background command. Google also documents the menu path Format > Image > Edit image > Remove background.

Inspect the result and preserve a recovery path
Check the subject boundary on the actual slide background. Reset image does not restore a removed background, so use Undo or version history if you need to return to the original.
Method 2: Insert a transparent PNG
When Remove background is unavailable, process the image in the browser first. This route also gives you Keep and Remove points for correcting the cutout before the image reaches the deck.

Create the transparent PNG
Open the background remover, select the source image, inspect the checkerboard preview, and add Keep or Remove points where the mask needs correction.

Download and test the PNG
Download at the source dimensions. Preview it over a light and dark color so pale halos or missing edges do not become visible only after insertion.

Insert it into Google Slides
In the deck, choose Insert > Image and upload the PNG. Resize it from a corner to preserve proportions, then use Arrange controls when it needs to sit above or below other slide elements.
Final quality checks
- Use the built-in command when your account includes it and the first result is already clean.
- Use the browser tool when the command is absent or you need point-based corrections.
- Keep an untouched source image in the deck or version history before editing.
- Export or present a test slide to confirm the transparent edge works against the final theme.
